"You Are Everything I Have": How to Lose Yourself in Love

Psychology without the sugar coating

01. You've already lost. But to whom?

"I don't want to lose you. You're everything I have." Sounds romantic? Maybe. But this person hasn't even lost their loved one yet, and they're already living as if their happiness is in someone else's hands, willingly handing over the right to decide their worth.

02. A pedestal instead of a relationship

"You're the best of the best. There's no one like you in the entire world." That's a great compliment until a different confession slips out right alongside it: "There are plenty of candidates way more worthy than me." Congratulations. You just explained to the person you love why they should go look for someone better.

03. Where did the man go?

He asks about her health, her job, her mood. Wonderful. Care is essential. But where is he in this story? His desires, his plans, his interests, his dignity? He's so busy admiring the woman that he gradually transforms from a partner into the customer service department of his own romance.

04. Fear disguised as love

"I'm a little afraid of losing you." Being afraid of losing someone close to you is natural. The problem starts when fear dictates every single action. A person like this agrees when they want to object. They tolerate things that make them uncomfortable. They apologize even when they aren't at fault. All just so she won't leave.

05. Now you're mine

After wishing for her freedom, happiness, and independence, comes: "Remember that you're mine." Now that's a plot twist. First, he declares himself unworthy of her love, and then he asserts property rights. One minute he's worshipping, the next he's trying to keep a tight leash. There's no equal partnership in those words.

06. A woman isn't obligated to be a goddess

When someone is constantly put on a higher pedestal than yourself, the relationship loses its balance. One person fears any sign of displeasure, while the other gets used to the idea that their desires always come first. Not every woman will take advantage of a situation like that, but the model itself is dangerous: true mutuality is easily replaced by one-sided concessions.

07. The most expensive mistake

He promises to take care of her after the wedding. But who's going to take care of him? Marriage doesn't save you from an inner void. A wedding band doesn't come with a side of self-confidence just because you bought it. If you consider yourself unworthy before the wedding, that belief isn't going to vanish once you've signed the certificate.

08. Don't ask for permission to be loved

You can admire someone you love, care for them, and be afraid of parting ways. But you cannot make another person the sole meaning of your existence and expect them to preserve your identity for you. Love is when two people stand side by side. It's not when one is on their knees begging the other not to leave.
