ENIGMA STORIES · ISSUE 01
He was online. But he didn't reply
01 · THE WAIT
Mia sent Leo a message: "How was your day? ❤️"
Ten minutes passed. Then twenty. Then forty.
Leo was online. But there was no reply.
02 · THE IMAGINATION
At first, Mia thought he was busy. Then, that he was mad at her. And half an hour later, her imagination had already invented another girl that Leo was probably texting right now.
Even though there was zero proof.
03 · THE CONFLICT
When Leo finally texted back, "Hey there, sunshine!", Mia replied with a single word: "Cool."
Leo stared at the screen. What exactly was cool, he had no idea.
04 · TWO REALITIES
In reality, Leo was helping a friend move. His phone was nearby, notifications kept popping up, and the app sometimes stayed open in the background.
In Mia's head, everything looked completely different. She already felt unwanted.
05 · THE TALK
"You could've at least texted that you were busy."
"I could have," Leo agreed. "And you could've asked if everything was okay instead of jumping to conclusions."
Mia paused to think. They both had a point. And they both had managed to hurt each other.
06 · THE PSYCHOLOGY
When information is missing, the brain tries to fill in the blanks. Especially if a person is afraid of rejection or has been through painful relationships in the past.
But an anxious guess isn't a fact. An "online" status doesn't show someone's true feelings or intentions.
07 · A SMALL DISCOVERY
That evening, they agreed on a simple rule. Leo would give a heads-up when he was going to be away for a while. And Mia would try not to turn every pause into a full-scale investigation.
Sometimes what saves a relationship isn't a grand romantic gesture, but one short message: "Busy right now. I'll text you later ❤️".
Does it drive you crazy when someone is online but doesn't answer?
